Notes from Class

Introduction: In this section, I wrote every note from all of the chapters covered in the semester. The significance of creating this section is to formulate a stance through my writing and use this notes in one the assignments of the class. For instance, in the technical description assignment, I used the notes that were given in class in order to have a better understanding of what it is and how to make it. I also wrote the sections that the lab report has and use these to analyze two lab reports that have their sections and write key differences about them.

Chapter 1: Introduction to technical communication

Purpose of T.C:

  • It begins with identifying a problem and thinking about how to solve it.

Communication professionally:

Chapter 14: Corresponding in print and online

Correspondence process:

Chapter 5: Writing for your audience

Determining the audience:

Reader’s:

  • Education
  • Professional Experience
  • Job responsibility
  • Reading skill
  • Cultural characteristics
  • Personal characteristics
  • Personal preferences

Primary audience: Consists of people to whom the communication is directed

Secondary audience: Consists of people more distant

Secondary source: Same information presented to others

Chapter 19: Introduction to lab reports

Components of lab reports:

  • Title
  • Abstract
  • Introduction
  • Materials and methods: Steps in an experiment
  • Results
  • Discussion
  • Conclusion

Chapter 20: Technical description

Definition: A brief explanation, using words, and sometimes graph

Description: A longer explanation, usually accompanied by graphs

Instructions: A process description always accompanied by graphics intended to enable a person to carry out a task.
